STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH
Lucas grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Growing up with his two brothers meant that almost every day after school there was a game going on in the backyard, the sport changed by the season but the foundational love of activity never did.
Lucas grew up playing all sports but eventually chose to pursue basketball. Over the course of his 5 years of eligibility, he played at colleges all over western Canada. He won back-to-back Rustler Awards for his hard work and dedication at Lakeland College and was named team captain for the 2014-2015 season. Lucas also played on The Camosun Chargers Men’s basketball team in 2015-2016 that won the silver medal in the Pacwest Conference playoffs and earned a trip to the CCAA nationals as one of the top 8 college teams in Canada that year. Through his time as a student-athlete with great help and mentorship from coaches far and wide, Lucas learned the value of hard work, dedication, attention to detail and so many other life lessons that sports reveal.
During this time Lucas was also able to gain insight into the world of strength and conditioning as it relates to athletic performance while studying the field of Exercise and Wellness at Camosun College, which was based out of the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence (PISE). Having the opportunity to learn and train in the same building as the women’s national rugby team and a large group of national rowing contenders helped Lucas to understand what is being done at the highest levels of competition, which was beneficial as an athlete and now as a trainer. A highlight of his formal training was studying for a full semester under the tutelage of Charles Parkinson to gain a better understanding of Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model. His time at PISE continues to impact the programming that he does and the trainer that he is.
IGNITE ATHLETICS became a second home to Lucas during his summers spent in Saskatoon. He is truly humbled to have an opportunity to pass on the skills and winning mentality that both Jordan and Joel exude to the next generation of Saskatchewan’s finest young athletes as they strive for their own success.
