Joel grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. He loved to play a variety of sports, but his fondest memory is playing catch with his dad on the street in front of his house. After high school Joel played post-secondary football with the U of R Rams and St. Mary's Huskies. He was named an All-Canadian at both Schools and the team MVP at St. Mary's. After University Joel became a two-time national team player and CFL player alumnus having played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimos.

Joel attributes his success in football to his work ethic and the many coaches and mentors that provided leadership and direction throughout his career. He understands first-hand the impact that a tailored strength and conditioning training program has on increasing personal performance.

Joel has been a coach in the strength and conditioning field for over 9 years. He believes in a holistic approach to coaching, understanding that you need to work on movement, recovery, nutrition and mindset in order to have optimal success. Dono two copy.jpg

BScKin, MScKin, CSCS

Growing up in Langham, SK., most of Donovan's childhood was spent playing sports and games with his five siblings. Being involved in soccer and baseball and having a healthy dose of sibling rivalry would lay the foundation of his love for sports.

Shortly before beginning high school, Donovan's family moved to Saskatoon which allowed him the chance to finally participate in the two sports which he was most curious and passionate about: football and wrestling. After high school, Donovan won three consecutive Canadian Junior Football League championships with the Saskatoon Hilltops and was named a CJFL All-Canadian in his 4th year. In University football, Donovan played 2 years with the UBC Thunderbirds and 2 years with the U of S Huskies and was named a CIS All-Canadian defensive lineman all 4 years. In 2016 Donovan signed a brief contract with the CFL's Ottawa REDBLACKS, before returning to University to finish his CIS eligibility and his master's degree in Kinesiology.

Donovan has worked for Ignite since January 2015 but was also an Ignite client since 2011. He attributes almost all of his success in football to the work Joel and Dave did correcting his technique and creating individualized strength programs. Donovan continued to absorb the knowledge of the Ignite staff and was a natural fit to join the workforce once he became certified as a Strength and Conditioning coach.

Donovan enjoys building relationships with as many clients as possible and always tries to keep everyone in his groups laughing. Donovan's wife Charissa is a registered nurse and they have two children.

Lucas three copy.jpg

Lucas grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Growing up with his two brothers meant that almost everyday after school there was a game going on in the backyard, the sport changed by the season but the foundational love of activity never did.

Lucas grew up playing all sports, but eventually chose to pursue basketball. Over the course of his 5 years of eligibility he played at colleges all over western Canada. He won back-to-back Rustler Awards for his hard work and dedication at Lakeland College and was named team captain for the 2014-2015 season. Lucas also played on The Camosun Chargers Men’s basketball team in 2015-2016 that won the silver medal in the Pacwest conference playoffs and earned a trip to the CCAA nationals as one of the top 8 college teams in the Canada that year. Through his time as a student athlete with great help and mentorship from coaches far and wide, Lucas learned the value of hard work, dedication, attention to detail and so many other life lessons that sports reveal.

During this time Lucas was also able to gain insight into the world of strength and conditioning as it relates to athletic performance while studying the field of Exercise and Wellness at Camosun College, which was based out of the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE). Having the opportunity to learn and train in the same building as the women’s national rugby team and a large group of national rowing contenders helped Lucas to understand what is being done at the highest levels of competition, which was beneficial as an athlete and now as a trainer. A highlight of his formal training was studying for a full semester under the tutelage of Charles Parkinson to gain a better understanding of Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model. His time at PISE continues to impact the programming that he does and the trainer that he is.

IGNITE ATHLETICS became a second home to Lucas during his summers spent in Saskatoon. He is truly humbled to have an opportunity to pass on the skills, and winning mentality that both Jordan and Joel exude to the next generation of Saskatchewan’s finest young athletes as they strive for their own success.
